A group of people who are undertaking work which improves our society on a daily basis are our Foster Carers. They are truly remarkable people, who deserve far more recognition for their selfless service, love for the children in their care and giving those young people a chance in life, by giving youngsters a sense of security and normality.

It’s not an easy job either. Under scrutiny to ensure their care is of a sufficient standard. It was spine-tingling to hear the positive appraisals, with the vast majority of Foster Carers in Bridgend not just making ‘acceptable’ contributions to the lives of the children and young people in their care – they go way over and above what is expected of them. The care and love they show is astonishing. Truly amazing people.

Today it was the Foster Carers’ Fun Day at Archbishop McGrath. An end of the summer holidays event aimed at giving everyone an enjoyable experience before the return to school. Indeed, it was fun for all, with lots of activities in this well-attended event. Many thanks to Councillor Jane Gebbie for inviting me to the event - and to the Mayor, Councillor Heather Griffiths and Jane for their company through the day and ice cream and coffee - my turn next time !!

Well done to the organisers and thank you to those who financed the event.
