The last time I was in Newbridge was 2018, with Maesteg Harlequins R.F.C. for a historic win over the former Gwent giants at their Memorial Ground.
Today, it was to the Newbridge Memorial Hall for the inauguration of the High Sheriff of Gwent, Her Honour Helen Mifflin.
Similarities between the ‘Memo’ in Newbridge and our buildings in Maesteg, where our culture is catered for, are many. Built by the collection of cash from local miners’ wages, to elevate the daily lives of the workers in the Ebbw valley town, the same story is mirrored in the construction of Maesteg’s Town Hall and hospital.
Her Honour Helen Mifflin inauguration was a celebration of the resilience of the town and indeed, every city, town and village in Gwent.
I wish Her Honour a very enjoyable and successful twelve months in office.
