The splendid Great Hall at Howells School in Cardiff is a grand venue. Built in 1900, the hall’s wonderfully wainscoted walls, fabulous Danish oak floor and magnificent murals of Shakespearean scenes by J M Staniforth, made one forget this character-packed space is actually part of a school.
I also temporarily forgot this was the venue for the inauguration of the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan - Mrs Janey Howell. This wasn’t a bad side-effect, especially as it would be my inauguration in twenty-four hours!
I had a tremendous time and I wish High Sheriff Howell a successful and gratifying year in office.
