Anticipatory. That’s the word – anticipatory. I’ve been feeling anticipatory for quite a while, as I look ahead to the moment I can no longer claim to being High Sheriff of Mid-Glamorgan.

Anticipatory means feeling nostalgic before events, times et al have passed. It’s a strange feeling which, I should imagine, many experience. Reminiscences of leaving workplaces months before retirement. Memories of your home, prior to moving away from or just moving home, are just two examples.

Even when in the thick of undertaking my duties, I have constantly looked back at this whirlwind year with fondness. This has only accentuated as the weeks and days have ticked ever downwards.

Memories of being approached to take on the role. Acceptance and then the reactions of others, including my late mam.

The inauguration was especially memorable. Was it enjoyment or anxiety inducing, memorable? It most certainly was the former. So many recognizable faces, the protocol, history and then the post inauguration conviviality.

Attending magnificent  events, discovering new organisations, meeting wonderful people, feeling immensely proud of those who make our communities, societies and nation such unique and amazing places to live. Their efforts allows us all the opportunities to thrive as individuals, communities, county and country.

There are far more decent, hard-working, society focussed, society enhancing, altruistic individuals out there, than even I imagined. Let their examples shine as a beacon to us all and to the next generations, who will stand on their shoulders.

The Gala Concert was a humbling experience. Such support and generosity amazed me and then came the artists! Managing to arrange Rhydian Jenkins' first performance in his home town was a huge pleasure. The Dalagllio Rugby Trust will now be able to change even more lives.

I’ve looked back with anticipatory and now I can do so with nostalgia. All the very best to my successor – have a great time.

Thanks to those who offered me the opportunity to become High Sheriff of Mid-Glamorgan, to maintain and be a miniscule part of the title's long history. The pride held within this particular Caerau boy in receiving this rare privilege is insurmountable.

Thank you to all who have supported me on this supreme, unique, adventure. Most of all thank you to the people, groups, businesses, public bodies and organisations of Mid-Glamorgan. This year has been a most memorable one and the pleasure has been entirely mine.

Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi gyd. Cared pob yn ein gynheitref.

Hwyl fawr. Ymlaen Morgannwg Canol.
