Perhaps the ‘B’ in B-Leaf and Wood-B stands for ‘busy.’
B-Leaf is a work-based initiative for adults with additional needs based within the grounds of Bryngarw Country Park. It operates as nursery, garden centre and provides an extensive training programme in horticulture and grounds maintenance.
Wood-B is also an initiative for adults with additional learning needs and based at a fully equipped carpentry workshop in Tondu.
The trainees at both projects are supported by a team of experienced staff. Together they manufacture bespoke, high-quality woodworking and joinery products for local customers and organisations. These creations include garden benches, bird boxes, noticeboards, sheds and summer houses.
Trainees are helped to progress in whichever direction their skills take them. The project also allows trainees to develop new skills, make new friends and ultimately lead more independent, fulfilling lives.
Tonight I enjoyed a fantastic evening of celebration in a dinner at Bryngarw House. To see the trainees of the B-Leaf and Wood-B initiatives receive awards for their incredible achievements over the last year, filled me with pride. Pride in every individual of both projects for their motivation, resilience and desire to improve their daily lives. Pride in the support staff, whose hard work and dedication is a lesson to us all.
There were a wide range of award categories which were excitedly received by the trainees; while family, friends and staff proudly watched proceedings.
Another mention must be made of the staff, who work so hard to make Wood-B and B-Leaf such great successes. I was able to recognise both these projects by making them more than worthy recipients of High Sheriff Awards - richly deserved by all involved. The pleasure, certainly was, all mine.
Llongyfarchiadau pawb! Congratulations everyone. Keep doing what you do. It is priceless.
