Rumpole of the Bailey, was a classic. Judge John Deed, enjoyable. Real life programmes like Murder, Mystery, My Family a fascinating look back at the legal profession of previous decades, centuries even. With all the above and more in mind, I have recently had the privilege of witnessing our judicial system first hand, and it has been enthralling.

The role of High Sheriff provides a unique opportunity to attend Court proceedings and observe how Justice works. The entire week sitting in criminal court alongside the presiding Judge was as informative, as it was educational. It was as educational as it was thought provoking and as thought provoking, as it was eye-opening. Under the guidance of a Senior Circuit Judge, whose explanations of proceedings was top drawer, the expert manner in which Judges work really was something to behold.

The summing up of all the complexities and legalities of the case, days-worth of information, was undertaken in a concise, articulate, thorough and perfectly balanced way, leaving no room for bias. There is absolutely no doubt, the Justice system is in wonderfully expert and impartial hands.
