During the summer, I previously posted information about a fun day for the children, young people and families who are part of Bridgend County’s young people in care provisions.
Today I enjoyed another event for the same group, when attending an Achievement Awards day at Bridgend College, Pencoed Campus. The children and young people were recognised for a wide range of achievements; educational, personal accomplishments, kind acts and much more.
As the High Sheriff of Mid-Glamorgan and certainly as a resident of Bridgend County Borough, I am very proud of the commitment and support that I have personally witnessed given to Bridgend's care experienced young people.
To navigate the care system at any age is no mean feat, but the resilience shown to make the best of the situation and excel is a remarkable achievement – today’s awards highlighted what remarkable superstars these particular young people are!
It’s not what happens to you, but how you react that matters. These young people and the adults in their lives have reacted so indomitably, it left me speechless in my complete admiration of them all.
There was plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy at the event; from magicians to African Drums. Numerous presentations were made and Lee Jukes of 106.3 Bridge FM with his usual pitch perfect professionalism, put everyone at ease.
Grateful thanks to Cllr. Jane Gebbie, Deputy Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council for the invite and Bridgend County Borough Council. Please keep up the outstanding work – our children deserve it.
Llongyfarchiadau pawb – Congratulations everyone!
