Once again, the Porthcawl Community Orchestra surpassed themselves on Sunday, with a feast of orchestral music from Musical Theatre.
This incredible 60-piece orchestra performed songs from West Side Story, The Little Mermaid, A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and Phantom of the Opera; to a packed and enthralled house at All Saints Church.
It was a diverse programme which mirrored the diversity of the orchestra itself, whose musicians hail from a wide variety of musical and career backgrounds. A mix of professionals, students and adult returners who all clearly enjoy making music together. They also provide high quality performances for their fortunate audiences.
We were treated to superb renditions of familiar stage production music, as the blended array of instruments from 60 talented musicians were harnessed and guided with such joyful energy by Musical Director Jack Bridger.
Thanks to Deana Stacey and Nicky Taliesin for compering so ably, with such unique individuality and great character.
As always, it was great to be in the company of Porthcawl’s Mayor Cllr Jeff Perren and consort, and Chris Elmore MP. Llongyfarchiadau everybody, for an electrifying afternoon of Musical Theatre favourites.
