It is difficult to comprehend that 1974 was, indeed, fifty years ago. Where has the time gone?
Richard Nixon resigned as President of the USA. Britain had a hung Parliament. The ‘Terracotta Army’ were discovered. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Waterloo’. Germany beat Holland to win the World Cup and it was the year the Sony Corporation first appeared in Wales.
To mark the half-century association between the Japanese electronics giant and Wales, today King Charles III visited the Sony Technology plant in Bridgend.
A whole host of people including myself, had the honour of being presented to His Majesty the King. It was a most enjoyable and enlightening day. The history and what has been manufactured at Sony, Bridgend, was remarkable. Such an important company and the longevity of their ties with Wales are certainly worth royal recognition.
Let’s hope a century long affiliation is celebrated in five decades time. Congratulations Sony on your 50th Anniversary and the further expansion of the Sony Corporation in our area.
