According to the song there are ‘three steps to Heaven.’ To the proverb, ‘thirty days hath September; April, June and November. In England and Wales there are fifty-five High Sheriffs.

Today I ventured to London for the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the High Sheriffs' Association. An opportunity, at the half-way stage of year in office, to meet current and former High Sheriffs and hear about the incredible work, different interests and emphasis others have been pursuing in other counties.

We met in Fishmongers Hall of the Fishmongers Company. The Fishmongers’ Company is one of the oldest and most ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, one of the ‘Great Twelve.’ For 700 years it has stood on the banks of the River Thames playing a leading role in upholding the standards in the trading of fish and shellfish . A role it continues today, as well as making a significant contribution to the UK fishing sector and other non-fishery areas through philanthropy and grants projects.

The Fishmongers Hall - is a Grade II listed building with four beautiful and historic rooms, incredible architecture, artefacts and paintings. Definitely worth a visit and the lunch was pretty good too!

The High Sheriffs Association is important in providing help, advice, support and guidance to its member High Sheriffs, who are all novices to this voluntary role during their terms of office We were thoroughly entertained by guest speaker Lord Lisvane of Blakemere KCB DL.

Diolch yn Fawr iawn o Gymru for a great day!
