What an incredible renovation of Maesteg Town Hall.
Re-opened today, this iconic building has been returned to the community with a cultural sensitivity to its former glory and much, much more. With a performance area, library, coffee shop and cinema. Light open spaces, increased opportunities for participation, Maesteg Town Hall has been renovated for future generations, while preserving the building's iconic past.
Perhaps the biggest thrill was viewing the newly renovated artwork of Christopher Williams. Born in Commercial Street, Maesteg; a visit to the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, in 1892, where he spent hours in front of Frederick Leighton's Perseus and Andromeda, revealed a new world to him. He left the Gallery with a firm decision that he would ignore his father’s wishes for him to become a doctor and instead, became an artist.
I have fond memories of watching my mam performing in the Maesteg Operatic Society in the mid 1960's. I later performed a number of times myself in unforgettable St Cynfelyn's Pantomimes!
Great past memories - looking forward to future events of the same memorable calibre!
Llongyfarchiadau pawb for bringing our Town Hall back to life. Now let's use it!
