Three weeks ago, I attended a Halloween Party organised by ‘Invisible Walls’ to learn more about the work this organisation undertakes with children and families and incarcerated family members. [Don't Allow Hard Lessons to Harden Hearts 29-10-2024]. I learned how they provide support, guidance and tangible help to those in prison, who want to rebuild or retain relationships with their children and loved ones. My inaugural visit was informative and today I went into Parc Prison to see first hand how one of the showcase events are undertaken and to meet the staff of Invisible Walls and the families they support.

The remits of social initiatives ever expand to bring an increasing number of projects into the fold. Today, this Community Interest Company held a Children's Showcase event, which allowed children and their teachers to meet with the fathers in Parc Prison and engage in a typical parent/teacher event.

It was a real privilege to have been part of and witness such a positive and affirming experience - which certainly improves the mental well-being and self-esteem of the children. The joy on the faces of the young people at seeing their parents was worthwhile in itself.

Such an event can only impact positively on those incarcerated and the hope is, such events will encourage the parental bond with the children never to break through enforced separation.

It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to present the Certificates of Achievement to all involved.

The participating schools and teachers must be given great credit for their inclusivity, in ensuring the parents of all pupils are considered. Llongyfarchiadau pawb.

Great to meet Will Styles the Prison Director again who was present to support this innovative and successful initiative, Bridgend County Borough Council, Mid- Glamorgan Lieutenancy, South Wales Police, Merthyr Tydfil CBC, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Welsh Government
