Today, a truly memorable Civic Service took place at All Saints Church Porthcawl.
Invited by His Worship the Mayor Cllr Jeff Perren OBE and Mayoress Mrs Carolyn Perren, the service highlighted the commitment of all those who serve in our communities and the extraordinary value in the efforts so many people make, to help others.
Saint Peter’s initial characteristics of fearfulness and inconsistency, like so many who first come forward to serve others, were replaced by confidence, conviction and compassion (Acts 2:14-4:31). Like a thread, this message weaved throughout the service.
The musical talent emphasised the theme of praise and worship with a powerful solo of Anthem by young Wil Morgan, from Porthcawl Comprehensive School. Rousing renditions of Gwahoddiad and Finlandia were sung by Porthcawl Male Voice Choir. All three songs deal with the greater good of community, nation and higher entities to guide us.
The address by Father Wayne David on aspects of the life of St Paul exemplified the qualities of sacrifice and humility in those who devote themselves to serve others.
It was a privilege to be in attendance together with Mid-Glamorgan Lieutenancy HM Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan and the Town and Community Councillors of Porthcawl Town Council, plus other Mayors and Chairpersons from other Town and Community Councils.
Have a great year in office.
