The title comes from the wise words of Nikos Kazantzakis.
Our young people are often much maligned, but look around and you will see the vast majority are part of positive community groups, organisations and clubs. Some are exemplary citizens regardless of age. Either way, they are not ‘deaf’ to words of advice, challenges or to the opportunities available to them. They don’t wait to be called they are out there, among us, doing their thing.
Recently I wrote about the well-established Mid Glamorgan High Sheriff Youth Community Awards and how the scheme recognises outstanding young people who have made a notable difference in Mid-Glamorgan.
This initiative requires money and this evening, we made a return visit to The Olive Tree Restaurant at Pyle Garden Centre, for a High Sheriff Community Awards fund-raiser. Mrs Jayne James is the Chair of the Awards Panel - and I am so grateful, as this year’s High Sheriff, for the incredible amount of work and energy Jayne puts into raising funds and making our events such a success. I cannot thank Jayne and her husband Rob enough for their generosity and for hosting us all at the Olive Tree - it was a fabulous evening.
Everyone entered into the spirit of the event and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The food was exceptionally good. The entertainment was terrific and the company… out of this world. It was sheer joy from start to finish.
Just in case you are wondering from the photographs if I have become Serífis of Athens, there was a theme to the night. It was a Greek Style Mamma Mia extravaganza!
A great time was had by all and I am so grateful for everyone's generosity towards the cause of rewarding the young who are community spirited to extraordinary levels. Their proactivity and drive to excel at what they do without 'knocking their doors,' deserves to be recognised.
